Q&A: What’s the Mythicist Position?
Question by Lha Bho: What’s the Mythicist Position?
From: http://freethoughtnation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=2160
The Mythicist Position:
“Mythicism represents the perspective that many gods, goddesses and other heroes and legendary figures said to possess extraordinary and/or supernatural attributes are not “real people” but are in fact mythological characters. Along with this view comes the recognition that many of these figures personify or symbolize natural phenomena, such as the sun, moon, stars, planets, constellations, etc., constituting what is called “astrotheology.” As a major example of the mythicist position, various biblical characters such as Adam and Eve, Satan, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Joshua, King David, Solomon & Jesus Christ, among other figures, in reality represent mythological characters along the same lines as the Egyptian, Sumerian, Phoenician, Indian, Greek, Roman and other godmen, who are all presently accepted as myths, rather than historical figures.”

Who have that authority to decide which is which? You can call it whatever in your science friction but in our own knowledge we prescribe it as we think fit. So keep that to yourself and the demarcation of anything is not in anyone authority.
If you wish to consider religion a myth by your own presumption, that is your degree of understanding. Some people may not think that is appropriate. So keep it to yourself.

The 2010 Astrotheology Calendar (reloaded)

1 Dec 09 – Listen to Acharya talk about The 2010 Astrotheology Calendar (archived audio): www.blogtalkradio.com Click here for full info! www.stellarhousepublishing.com The 2010 Astrotheology Calendar—brought to you by Astrotheology Press, a division of Stellar House Publishing—provides valuable and amazing information about holidays celebrated from ancient times to today that are largely based in astrotheology and nature worship. In addition to recording a number of fascinating celebrations from a variety of cultures marked on various days of each month, the Astrotheology Calendar highlights certain dates in the accompanying explanatory text. These highlighted days include the solstices, equinoxes and “cross-quarter days,” as well as various dates that reflect important developments in the field of comparative religion and mythology. For example, many people nowadays know that “Christmas” is not really the day when Jesus Christ was born. Rather, Xmas is a remake of an ancient winter-solstice celebration. In the Astrotheology Calendar are included a number of other important winter-solstice celebrations, such as the births of Mithra and Horus-Aion, as well as that of the Japanese sun goddess Amaterasu. Also explored in this calendar are many other revelations of how Pagan festivities celebrated in such places as Rome, Greece, Egypt and the British Isles, were likewise Christianized by the Catholic Church. Who is Acharya S? And what is Truth Be Known? “Acharya S” is the pen name of independent scholar and author D.M. Murdock, who owns Stellar House Publishing, LLC. Ms. Murdock writes books about the origins of religion and mythology, with an eye to the astrotheological meanings of religious ideas and myths. Her book about the origins of Christianity called “The Christ Conspiracy: The Greatest Story Ever Sold” has been read widely and critiqued over the past decade.
In response to the commentary about “The Christ Conspiracy,” Acharya/Murdock wrote “Suns of God: Krishna, Buddha and Christ Unveiled” and “Who Was Jesus? Fingerprints of The Christ.” This latter book, which analyzes the gospel story and includes the words of many important Christian scholars, has been well received by a number of experts and scholars in the field of Christian origins. Murdock has also written many articles and done interviews and radio programs addressing a wide variety of issues raised by her work and its criticism.
In 2007, the internet movie “ZEITGEIST” went viral and was viewed by many millions of people. The first part of the movie was based significantly on Acharya’s work and, because of its popularity, has been heavily criticized, particularly by Christian fundamentalists. Over the years since then, Acharya/Murdock has responded many times with a series of articles, videos and a number of ebooks and books, including the massive study of the connection between the ancient Egyptian religion and Christianity entitled, “Christ in Egypt: The Horus-Jesus Connection.” This important book has been endorsed by a New Testament scholar and a renowned archaeologist. Other recent works of Acharya/Murdock’s include “Jesus as the Sun throughout History,” “The Gospel According to Acharya S” and “The 2010 Astrotheology Calendar.”
As a “mythicist,” Acharya S is not anti-religion, nor is she interested in creating atheists. Indeed, Murdock enjoys religion, not as a believer in it but as an observer of some of its great contribution to human culture, especially as concerns its simple and logical origins. These origins revolve largely around natural phenomena that are observable by human beings globally over the past many thousands of years. These observations beginning in remote antiquity have been recorded in numerous ways, including art, architecture, calendars, myths, rituals and traditions. The mythical and astrotheological origins of much religion are becoming increasingly obvious with the fascinating finds from the ancient world such as Stonehenge, the Pyramids, Newgrange and much more globally.
Unfortunately, we have lost so much of our ancient culture, and it continues to be threatened by battles over ideology and resources. Let us hope in the future that we can do a better job preserving and restoring our shared common heritage. Acharya’s work is designed to prevent further cultural loss and to bring forth amazing and enriching information long buried under layers of dirt and dust, as well as banished from the mass human psyche through cultural conditioning and biases often found in mainstream religions.
Online since 1995, Acharya S and Truth Be Known have been dedicated to bringing to the public lost, hidden and buried treasure in the form of fascinating knowledge that has spurred the creation of a number of astounding cultures and civilizations such as those of ancient Egypt, Sumeria, Greece, Babylon and India.

Article Source: http://StellarHousePublishing.com/mythicist.html – What is Mythicism
terms “mythicism” and “mythicist” may be new to many people, although they were several centuries. “Mythicist” is the first time in German and English for people who have shaped the historical accuracy of the Judeo-Christian Bible described in doubt. It is used these days, especially for scientists, researchers and others, whether the New Testament figure of Jesus was to define the real, historical figure or a myth in the sense of the gods, the god-men and heroes of other cultures, to examine such as Hercules, Mithras, and Horus . Mythicist also question the historicity of other biblical figures as Adam, Eve, Satan, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon, and so on. If religion and mythology of other ancient cultures studied, there is good reason to doubt that the historical figures, especially when we have no credible scientific and archaeological or historical evidence of their existence. The Bible is often the only alleged evidence we have of these people need a reality as historical figures.
Although many people can not achieve long-term, comprehensive studies that include what is called “mythicism,” the question in the Bible as a representative of the mythology goes back several centuries. Much of the most important work in this field in Europe has been, at least from the late 18th Century, especially in France and Germany.
In France, late 18th Century came to a multi-volume work of Professor Charles Dupuis, who together an enormous amount of evidence that many of the old gods and goddesses were solar in nature and that the biblical figures like Jesus, share many aspects in common with these deities. Dupuis was Count Volney, the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, who said, taught himself once said that the question of whether Jesus Christ really lived the “good”.
Below
In the 19th French scientists of this century, Dr. FC Baur follows Tübingen School in Germany at the request together with his student, Dr. David F. Strauss, who was attacked and lost his job to write the life of Jesus, that much of the Gospel story is fabulous. Strauss almost “mythicism” for a certain period, but was known by Dr. Bruno Bauer, who also doubts about the Bible as it follows the “History”. There are many others since then, including the Rev. Dr. Robert Taylor, who was in the 1820s and 30s in England twice in prison for “blasphemy” charges for speaking about Christ as a myth. More than a few scientists, researchers and writers in the 20th Century and fall into the category “mythicists” as well.
Mythicist position has a lot to them that it was difficult in the gospel story as “history”, but who wants to know the deeper meaning behind the stories are believed to offer. One of the main planks mythicism recognition of the ancient religion of nature astrotheology and practices of ancient cultures, religions and myths that have contributed to the creation of Christianity. It astrotheology can be summarized in brief as the embodiment of worship and the sun, moon, earth, planets, stars and constellations and other celestial bodies and natural phenomena. It did not take ancient man very long to decide that in this world the single greatest enemy to be feared was the darkness of night, and all the unknown dangers that came with it. Simply stated, man’s first enemy was darkness. Understanding this one fact alone, people can readily see why the greatest and most trustworthy friend the human race could ever have was by far, heaven’s greatest gift to the world … that Glorious Rising Orb of Day: … THE SUN
