Why do I feel like everyone who believes in God is missing the obvious?

Question by : Why do I feel like everyone who believes in God is missing the obvious?
I was raised catholic, and throughout my whole life I like many millions of others have been told that there is a being that created everything called God and a being of all evil named Satan. It is never questioned or debated, just treated like fact. Recently however, as my own independent thinking comes into effect, my brain can’t help but notice flaws in this “oh so perfect” predicament…

My first is just something which seems very obvious to me, why oh why is this treated like fact when there is no concrete evidence of that? I used to often joke that what if the bible was just a story, made by some guy 2000 years ago who forgot to add a “all characters are fictional” page. As time goes on, this seems more and more a possibility to me.

Take a story like the Matrix, it is about a man who is brought to the “real world”, believed to be “the one” and to save all of humanity from evil (or something like that). Now, tell this to anyone and they will of course say “oh, that’s just the Matrix” but then tell people that this is the round about story of Jesus. All of a sudden it becomes fact, and if you believe otherwise then your wrong. I’m sorry, but, what!? Just because someone tells you that it’s “fact” does not mean it is “fact”, it’s like the blind leading the blind.

So if there is a God, where is he? And why after so many “predictions” has none come true, coming from my RE teacher in school (a subject we are forced to take) Jesus appeared to a nun, telling of how if Russia isn’t forgiven for communism they will strike… as of now, there is no evidence Russia is planning an attack against the western world, if anywhere has more of a chance to attack it’s Korea. Now take into account that this prediction was made in a time where Russia was a real threat to the world, anyone else think of lies?

So this leads to me asking, what if it’s all lies? As time goes on I notice mass having characteristics of propaganda and brain washing, telling innocent minds of a lie and chanting various “prayers” over and over to cement the fact in their minds that there is something out there, a God complex anyone?

Now that is a sinister thought, and I’m not doubting a church community is beneficial to the world, bring people closer together and ultimately happier, it just bothers me how big its got. It is normal as a human race for us to believe in a great external force that will judge you on what you’ve done and how you do it. I don’t like the idea of not being in control of my destiny and what I want to do because of one being.

So if anyone cares to join in this rant please do I’m on the fence about this, it seems a trend for teenagers to not believe in religion because it’s “cool”, but maybe they have a point. Thanks

This technician also advised that as Telstraclear used a different route, their customers were still able to access the two sites.
