Will you be avoiding these supermarkets now? I definitely won’t be shopping there anytime soon!
Weren’t the statements from the management of both Sainsburys and Tesco beyond belief?!
Regarding the Whistleblower programme, I can’t believe that it received so little coverage in the newspapers. The only reference seems to be in the Guardian. I would have thought that a matter of public health and safety would have been of high importance to the press.

from now on no more frozen dinners, nothing from the deli, or fish counter, you cant trust anyone.

I have decided that I will buy my meat from the local butcher in future and everyone should do the same and teach these large organisations a big lesson by hitting them where is hurts – their profits. Surely our health is more important than Tesco’s profits? Clearly not.
My ex worked at Tesco as a checkout manager and I am not surprised what goes on as the managers of each sections are given very hard targets and so the managers cut corners. They are measured on sales, waste (yes waste so that encourages them to sell poor quality or out of date stock) etc.

I know someone who was involved in this and she’s thinks its all blown out of proportion.
I am going to watch it tonight( sky plus recorded)
I don’t like sainsburys anyway its a crap supermarket.

I shop at Morrisons but just because they didn’t film Morrisons doesn’t mean the same thing isn’t going on there so from now on as far as fresh meat is concerned I will go to the butchers, and although I don’t eat a lot of micro meals I do sometimes buy the chicken curry indian and rice meals which I will never be doing again!!

I am off to the proper butchers shop.

HOW DISGUSTING WAS THAT.
The butchers will have a roaring trade now.

yep, has really put me off the meat and fish counters, cant believe they used a fish knife to open a smelly drain gross!!! will use local butchers from now on.

I agree – they all but denied anything untowards was going on although it was all there on video!
I don’t shop at Tesco but do go to Sainsburys on a regular basis. I am off to my local Waitrose now and will ask them what the sell by/use by date is on their fresh meat.
I also agree with the respondent who said use the local butcher – we have two in our town so will try them!!
As for pre-packed meals – I have never bought them since a firm was exposed on Watchdog or something like that. Prefer to make my own from scratch! Those factories are absolutely disgusting! Dog food is made in cleaner places – I know I used to work for a dog food manufacturer and toured the factory many times.

Hi, I didn’t see it but i work for a major supermarket (not any of those two) and it was commented on this morning. What on earth were they thinking of, if that had happened in our supermarket we would have been shot at dawn. You cant put peoples health at stake just to get the sales i believe it was disgraceful.

I missed it. What was it about then? What has turned you against the stores?

Yes I watched it was shocked with it….they should not be allowed to get away with it all…. there should be a national outcry, the thing is where do we do our shopping…and who really can we trust, who’s to say the local butchers havent got staff that do things we wouldn’t approve off..But I will think twice before buying something off the meat or fish counter…and ready meals are definitely out..it was enough to make you want to grow your own food and rear your own animals for eating etc.

For those who say they will be buying meat from the butcher and fish from the fish monger, why are they expected to be any different.

No, but I read an article about it in the paper. Horrifying isn’t it.

Oh I was disgusted by it!
I really never thought they would take the pi** of us like that!

While watching I kept thinking to myself "Thank goodness I shop at Asda".

Proper butchers must be dancing around their shops since that programme! They will get so much more business.
You can have rules in place, but if you employ scummers that don’t stick to the rules then you’re stuffed. Unfortunately so many people just don’t care that things are overlooked and ignored every second of the day! It’s a joke. What happened to people caring and doing the right thing?
